Frequently asked questions

Are you regulated by a professional body?

Yes, Steve is registered as a practitioner with:

Association of Yoga Studies (www.yogastudies.org)

The Yoga Register   ( www.theyogaregister.org)

  1. What do you charge for treatment?

An initial, 30 minute, complimentary consultation is arranged in order to decide whether you want to proceed with Yoga or Ayurveda.

The initial consultation fee is £80 ( 2 hour consultation and a 1/2 hour review) and subsequent sessions are charged at £35 per hour.

During the initial consultation, a full history is taken and you will be assessed on mobility. An Ayurvedic assessment of your tissue health and constitutional type is also included in the Ayurvedic consultation.

  1. Is Yoga Therapy or Ayurveda treatment available in an NHS clinic or through a G.P.practice?

No, there is currently no financial assistance from the NHS for this type of therapy.

  1. Have you treated people with my condition before?

The approach in Yoga and Ayurveda is primarily to treat the individual person rather than the disease. Steve has personal experience of treating people with a wide range of different ailments and health aims and he has the skills and knowledge to treat many common complaints including for example: Asthma and respiratory complaints, digestive ailments, stress-related conditions, skin irritations and abnormalities, back and joint problems, menstrual and menopausal symptoms, recovery from fatigue and M.E., arthritis, anxiety and obesity.

Yoga and Ayurveda is also a straightforward and well-proven methodology for maintaining good health and encouraging optimum health.

  1. How many treatments might I need?

This depends on your condition and how long you’ve been unwell. It also depends on the extent to which you’re willing to engage with the treatment. You should notice an immediate change for the better, but true, complete healing takes a while to permeate through. As an example, to stabilise a bad back, we would suggest booking 6 yoga  treatment sessions. Once your back is stable, then we can, if you wish, move on to work on the prevention of back pain, other disease prevention and then life enhancement practices.

It will take dedication and your time and effort to make the most of your treatment. However, rest assured that we will work with you to define the boundaries of treatment and set some agreed short and long-term goals.

  1. Is there anything I should do in preparation for a consultation with you?

First of all, give some thought to what you want to achieve through yoga and/or Ayurvedic treatment. Then, we suggest you book a ½ hour initial free consultation so that you can meet Steve and decide whether to proceed.

Should you proceed then we’ll send you a questionnaire to complete before your first appointment. For your consultation, please wear loose, comfortable clothing.

  1. Would I need to take things easy for the rest of the day after a consultation?

No. This may be necessary after Ayurvedic massage. Individual advice would be given on this.

  1. Are there any possible side effects or risk factors?

The Ayurvedic herbs that we use are produced to the highest organic and purity standards and there are very few contraindications. With any movement modality such as yoga, there is always an element of risk. However, yoga is the safest form of physical exercise with the lowest recorded injury rates. The careful assessment and personalised application of Yoga and Ayurveda to your situation, coupled with Steve’s professional competence, ensures that you have the safest possible experience.

  1. Do I need to tell you about any over the counter medication I’m taking or any other treatment I am receiving?

Yes, you will be asked for this information in the questionnaire that we send you before your first treatment session.

  1. What about prescription medicines?

Yes, you will be asked for this information in the questionnaire that we send you before your first treatment session.
